Harvard Team Wins 2010 Affordable Housing Development Competition

A proposal to convert a rundown mill in Lowell took top honors in the 2010 Affordable Housing Development Competition sponsored by the BSA, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, ICON architecture, Citizens' Housing and Planning Association and Kevin P. Martin & Associates.


Student team members Julie Chan, Jorge Colon, Julie Leadbetter, Joseph Martinez, Terra Rogers, Alexis Taylor, Jasmine Tillu and Yan-Ping Wang will split the $10,000 first-place award with their community development partner, Coalition for a Better Acre.


Kendra Halliwell of ICON architecture, Seth Hoffman of Affiliated Projects and Paul Silverstone AIA of MassHousing served as the team's design mentors for their Shawnit Mill plan.
